A full liter of filtered water per fill, with a filter the brand rates against viruses as well as bacteria and parasites.

The Extra Large is Water-to-Go's biggest bottle at 33.8 fl oz (1 liter), sold in Cloud Grey and Jet Black at $69.99. The pitch is simple: fill from a tap, a stream, or a questionable hotel sink, and drink through the in-lid filter. Water-to-Go states its filter removes up to 99.999% of contaminants including viruses, bacteria, parasites, heavy metals, chemicals, pesticides, and microplastics. The virus rating is the differentiator the brand leans on, since many popular squeeze-style filter bottles are rated for bacteria and protozoa only.

The bottle body is made from a sugarcane-derived material rather than conventional plastic, and the brand says it is machine washable and as durable as regular plastic. Packaging is recycled cardboard printed with vegetable inks, and Water-to-Go claims each filter replaces about 400 single-use plastic bottles. The lid carries a no-leak lifetime guarantee, which matters for a bottle this size riding in a backpack.

Budget for consumables. Each filter is rated for 53 gallons (200 liters), roughly three months of use, and a replacement twin pack runs $49.99, so ongoing cost works out to about 12.5 cents per liter at the rated capacity. Water-to-Go also notes that sediment-heavy water shortens filter life and that the filter is not effective on sea water, so this is a freshwater and tap tool, not a desalinator.

At $69.99 the Extra Large costs $10 more than the 18.5 oz Small and $5 more than the 26 oz Large. If you drink a lot between refill points, the per-fill math favors the liter size. If it has to fit a bike cage or a small daypack pocket, the smaller bottles carry the same filter in a more packable shell.

Frequently asked

Water-to-Go Extra Large Water Purifier Bottle (33.8 fl oz / 1L) - buyer FAQ

How long does a Water-to-Go filter last?

Water-to-Go rates one filter at 200 liters, or 53 gallons, which the brand says works out to roughly 3 months if you refill at a tap 2 to 3 times a day. Heavy silt or sediment shortens it. The company recommends replacing after 3 months of cumulative use, or every 2 months where water is particularly unsafe.

Do I need to do anything before using the bottle for the first time?

Yes. Before first use you fill the bottle so the filter is fully submerged and leave it 15 minutes. If you use the bottle regularly you only do this once. If the filter dries out after a few weeks unused, repeat the same 15 minute soak. Water-to-Go says a filter can be safely reactivated 3 times.

Is the 1L Water-to-Go bottle dishwasher safe?

Yes. Water-to-Go lists its bioplastic, Active and Classic bottles as dishwasher safe, and says to remove the filter before cleaning. The discontinued Go! 18oz bottle and its lid were hand wash only. So plan on washing the body and lid in the machine and setting the filter aside separately.

Can I use a Water-to-Go bottle to fill a glass or a cooking pot?

No. Water-to-Go says the bottles are designed to purify water as you drink, not to fill another vessel, so a glass or a pot is not recommended. Getting enough water out to brush your teeth is fine. Flow is slower than a normal bottle by design, which the brand says is the filter doing its job.
