How the awards work

  • Bench-tested only. Every award winner is tested on the Editor’s Bench before judging. No paper-only entries.
  • Open submissions, no fees. Brands submit hardware via a public form. There are no submission fees, sponsorship tiers, or pay-to-play categories.
  • Category editors lead judging. Each beat’s named editorial-board member leads the shortlist and final scoring for their category, with the editor-in-chief signing off.
  • Public rubric, public scores. Winners are announced with their full per-criterion score breakdown so readers can verify the math.
  • Annual cadence, December. Winners ship in the annual Lifespan Vault Almanac — a print-and-digital companion that members get first.
